Bamboo Viscose vs. Silk

By Tarryn Aubuchon | Aug 29, 2022

Bamboo Viscose and silk are both incredible options if you’re looking for high-quality bedding. They’re both luxuriously soft and come from natural fibers.

Bamboo viscose bedding offers many benefits:

  • It provides luxury without being overly expensive.
  • It is easy to care for and clean
  • It’s durable and should last years
  • It’s breathable and a great option for hot sleepers

Bamboo viscose is typically more affordable than silk because it is easier to harvest. Since bamboo is a grass, it grows at a shockingly fast pace and can be harvested quickly. In fact, some species of bamboo have been known to grow 35 inches in one day! In contrast, it takes over 12,000 cocoons to make one silk comforter and each of these cocoons has to be spun by one silkworm. With such a discrepancy in how difficult it is to harvest the material, it’s no wonder that bamboo viscose is less expensive than silk.

In addition to being cheaper, bamboo viscose is easy to care for and clean. Simply follow our care instruction and your bamboo viscose bedding should last years. Even after multiple washes, bamboo viscose bedding can still look new, plus it doesn’t fade or yellow like other bedding.

All of these practical qualities make viscose from bamboo a wonderful choice. Yet, what are the disadvantages to this comfortable bedding? Well, some argue that bamboo viscose isn’t quite as luxurious or as soft as silk. Even critics agree that viscose from bamboo is still an amazing option for high-quality bedding.

Perhaps you’re looking for something a little grander than viscose from bamboo, something that really shines with sophistication and style. If this sounds like you, try a mulberry silk comforter and sumptuous silk sheets. When it comes to lavish comfort, silk enhances your elegant décor by infusing it with a regal air. So, what are the advantages and disadvantages to silk bedding?

Benefits of Silk Over Bamboo Viscose

The first and most obvious advantage of silk is that it is well-established as a luxury item. Royals have coveted silk through the ages and no one can argue that it isn’t a superior material. The smooth texture of silk is legendary, and its plush fibers make this bedding unbelievably soft. It’s also surprisingly strong, making it a very durable and reliable fabric.

All of these practical qualities make bamboo viscose a wonderful choice. Yet, what are the disadvantages to this comfortable bedding? Well, some argue that bamboo viscose isn’t quite as luxurious as silk. While it is surprisingly smooth, especially in comparison to cotton, viscose from bamboo isn’t as smooth as silk. However, even the critics agree that bamboo viscose is still an amazing option for high-quality bedding. As a matter of fact, many people dislike how slippery silk is and actually prefer that bamboo viscose is smooth without being too smooth.

What’s the Downside of Silk?

To get that slippery smooth feel, silk is manufactured with a tight weave that doesn’t allow as much breathability as bamboo viscose, making silk a better option for those that get cold at night.

The second drawback is that silk can be a little high-maintenance. Unlike viscose from bamboo bedding, you can’t toss simply silk into the washing machine. It needs to either be washed on a delicate cycle in cold water, by hand, or professionally.

Both bamboo viscose and silk are excellent options if you’re looking for high-quality bedding. The choice really depends on your personal preference.
