The Psychology of Comfort

By Riley Seymour | May 30, 2023

We talk a lot about how comfortable our products are, and with the softest, temperature-regulating fabrics, why wouldn't we? But why is being comfortable so important, and how can we add more comfort to our lives?

What Does "Comfort" Really Mean

Dictionary.com offers 11 definitions of comfort as a noun, but the most relevant meaning of comfort to this conversation is, "a state of ease and satisfaction of bodily wants, with freedom from pain and anxiety." Many of us take comfort for granted until something takes us out of that feeling. Often, the disruptions to our state of comfort are from external sources like stress from work or troublesome news from friends. There are different aspects of comfort to consider, too. Aesthetic comfort comes from visually appealing materials like fabrics, paint colors, and artwork. Thermoregulation comfort happens when your body is in a state of balance with the temperature and humidity of the environment. Tactile comfort comes from the feel of the items you surround yourself with like soft bedding, plush towels, and relaxed clothing – our specialties!
